Winter Sun in the Algarve
While Northern Europe shivers through December to February, the Algarve enjoys mild days of 15-18°C, low humidity, and 5-6 hours of sunshine. It's not beach weather (well, sometimes it is), but it's perfect for golf, hiking, exploring Moorish castles, and eating cataplana by the fire.
Why Winter?
Lower rates (significantly less than peak summer). Empty golf courses — Salgados, Amendoeira, Ombria are all uncrowded. Christmas and New Year in Portugal have their own magic: festive markets in Loulé, seafood feasts, midnight fireworks on the beach.
The Villa in Winter
The pool can be heated (optional extra) so you can swim year-round. Sonos and the games room mean entertainment whatever the weather. The BBQ works beautifully on mild winter evenings. And the terrace sunsets are arguably even more dramatic in December.
